On October 1, 2017, IBDP1 and IBDP2 students had a day trip to the famous Byurakan Astrophysical Observatory and Mount Aragats. First we visited the Observatory where we were given a brief tour, and afterwards, were able to see Victor Hambartsumian’s house-museum, which was very interesting. We gained a more clear perspective of the world of astronomy and physics, and were able to connect the new information with what was studied in the classroom.
Even more exciting was the 3 hour climb from Kari Lake (located in the slopes of Mount Aragats) to the peak. Students and teachers enthusiastically hiked up the mountain, singing and dancing to Armenian folk music along the way.
The main objective of this trip was to introduce the subjects of Physics, TOK (Theory of Knowledge), and CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) and to show the importance of them in our daily lives.
